Where and How to Vote

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Registration deadlines, early-voting windows, polling places, ballot-return rules and identification requirements depend on your state and often your county.

Go straight to your election authority

The National Association of Secretaries of State hosts a nonpartisan voter portal linking directly to official state resources. It covers registration status, polling places, ID requirements, absentee and early voting, and help for voters overseas.

Three checks before heading to vote

1. Registration

Confirm your registration and precinct. Some deadlines have passed; do not assume that rules in a neighboring state apply to you.

2. When and where

Verify dates, exact polling location and hours. States and counties may differ, including local exceptions and early-voting sites.

3. Your ballot

Check requirements for voter ID, mail ballots, provisional ballots and assistance if you need it. Follow the election authority's instructions.

After you vote

Election-night tallies are preliminary. Media outlets can project winners, but official results come from election authorities after canvassing and certification.
